For the past ten years Caitlin Atkinson has worked as a freelance photographer of gardens, interiors, and still life. She grew up in a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas. A childhood spent amongst trees, mountains and rivers instilled a love of the natural world. She conceived of and photographed the book Under Western Skies: Visionary Gardens from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Coast( Timber, 2021). She was the photographer for the book Dry Gardens: High Style for Low Water Gardens (Rizzoli 2018), Designing with Palms (Timber, 2018), Air Plants: The Curious World of Tillandsias (Timber, 2014). She photographed, styled and wrote, Plant Craft: 30 Nature-Based Projects for Your Home (Timber, 2016). Caitlin’s photographs have appeared in national magazines: Gardens Illustrated, Elle Decor, Dwell, Martha Stewart Living, Architectural Digest among others. When not photographing gardens you can find her digging in her own patch of dirt.
